Maura Spiegel is Professor for English and Comparative Literature at the Columbia University.
She specializes in contemporary fiction, film, and narrative theory. She is a founding member and Associate Director of the Program in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where she teaches film courses to medical students. In addition, she teaches in Columbia’s Master of Science Program in Narrative Medicine. She co-edited the journal Literature and Medicine (Johns Hopkins University Press) for seven years, has written for The New York Times, and has published essays on the history of the emotions, fashion in film, among many other topics.
Maura Spiegel is a Visiting Fellow at CAS LMU in June 2026 upon invitation of Dr. Lisa Dr. Mike Rüb (Charité/LMU) in the context of the CAS Research Focus “Narrations of Medicine”.
